One of the hardest times of my life was when my gram told me she was moving into a nursing home. I just did not feel she needed to be in one, especially when I had offered to open my own home to her if she ever wanted to move in. She told me that she did not want to interfere with my own life, and that she had picked out a great nursing home where she would still retain a lot of independence. She told me I needed to look at storage for Winnipeg because this might just be a temporary move for her.
That is what brought me comfort. I knew that if she was planning on a permanent move, she would have had me looking at people who hold estate sales. She was getting rid of some things, but she still wanted to store the majority of her furniture and all of her knick knacks. I looked at different storage facilities in the area, and I was happy when I came across the one that we are now using for her possessions. They not only have a great and convenient location for us, but the price was right too since they were running a special when we made the booking.
What my gram likes about it is that it is a climate controlled storage unit. She does not have to worry about her things getting damaged because of extreme temperature changes or dampness. She also likes that it is monitored around the clock. While nothing she has would ever end up in a museum, a lot of it holds a lot of sentimental value for her. She just likes the peace of mind knowing that it is in safe hands where it is. As for me, I am just counting down the days until we move her here with me!
